Proposed Landfill Expansion in the Pine Bush
ALBANY, NY — Save the Pine Bush will hold a PRESS CONFERENCE at the Village of Colonie Village Hall, 2 Thunder Road Albany, New York 12205 on Monday, April 20 at 11:00 AM. The purpose of the press conference is to:
1) Announce the discovery about the use of pesticides and rodenticides by the City at the landfill. These chemicals may severely impact the endangered Karner Blue butterfly, the buck moth, raptor birds, carnivores and other animals making their home in this unique ecosystem.
2) Announce Save the Pine Bush’s support for the Village of Colonie’s Public Meeting on the Proposed Landfill Expansion in the Pine Bush on Wednesday, April 22 at 7:00 PM. Save the Pine Bush believes the voices of the people most affected by the landfill have been ignored by the City of Albany and the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation.
Mayor Frank Leak of the Village of Colonie, Ward Stone, NYS Wildlife Pathologist, and representatives from Sierra Club, SCRAP and Save the Pine Bush will speak.
“It is time to speak truth to power,” said Lynne Jackson, volunteer with Save the Pine Bush. “The landfill affects the quality of life of hundreds, if not thousands of people. Pesticides at the landfill are adversely affecting animals in the endangered Pine Bush. It is time for the City to give up expanding the landfill in the Pine Bush and adopt a policy of zero waste.”
